Christmas has become a tradition. A "for-the-sake-it's-that-time-of-year" thing. No longer is it about Giving and Sharing. It's about Receiving and Having.
People saying, "I want this for Christmas. I want that for Christmas." Families preparing their festive meal composed of lechon baboy, spaghetti, cakes, salads, mango floats, hams, and etc... Usually in Christmas Parties there are exchanges of gifts, usually "priced" (P200.00 and above) and wrapped. Business Establishments seem to have wide smiles during the yuletide season, knowing that such time is a time when people spend all the money they have and more. True. Christmas has become a very very expensive tradition. And it doesn't end there. Rioting, cursing, pushing, and cheating seem to elevate during Christmas Season (Rush Hour Sale, last-minute shopping). Couples fighting over the expensive, lavish, multiple-course Christmas Meal. Children crying over unfulfilled whims or arguing over who has the best gift. What's worst, is that none of these things really matter. If this is the real meaning of Christmas, I don't want to be part of it.
Christmas is about inner peace, inner joy. Giving gifts such as clothes, toys, food to the needy. Giving them happiness through any type of wholesome entertainment. Christmas is not about the Haves showing-off and the Have-nots wishing this and that. Christmas is about the Haves giving to the needy and the Have-nots thanking and being content of what they have. Christmas is the time to spread whatever it is that gives us that genuine inner peace and inner joy.
Call me "cooky" and all, but I believe that's the best Christmas there is.
